- Kirkwood
Historical Society - Founded in 1961, dedicated to the preservation
of Kirkwood history, maintains Mudd's Grove as a museum house, maintains
a reference library useful for local research, collects oral histories
of older residents and former residents.
- Museum of Transportation
- Maintains an extensive collection of trains and streetcars,
a reference library which includes a streetcar photo archive and a Meramec
Highlands file, works with volunteers to lay track and hang wire for operating
streetcars. Operated by St. Louis County Dept. of Parks and Recreation.
- State Historical
Society of Missouri - Founded in 1898 by the Missouri Press Association
and a trustee of the state since 1901, the State Historical Society of
Missouri is the preeminent research facility for the study of the Show
Me State's heritage. Housed in Ellis Library on the University of Missouri-Columbia
campus, the Society is well located geographically and institutionally to
meet the needs of scholars, genealogists, family and local historians, historic
preservationists, journalists and others. Maintains an extensive file
of Missouri newspapers on microfilm.

Maintains a great museum and a library/research facility. The archives
in the research facility are a gold mine. Provides a a link to the
Missouri Historical Society Press. A link to search 60% of the library
collection is provided, though a visit to the center will be more rewarding
in finding what is needed.

a bit of time to load, but has a clear photo and description of each Kirkwood
landmark. Meramec Highlands Historic District as well as the individual
landmarks in the Meramec Highlands area are prominent. Click on Ordinances
to view the Landmark ordinance. Contains useful links to Missouri
government.

- Kirkwood R7 School
District - Meramec Highlands school district was taken over by the
Kirkwood public schools. This site provides current information
about the district, resources for the teachers and parents, and other
education and local Kirkwood area links.
- Missouri Alliance for
Historic Preservation - Nonprofit organization that promotes, supports,
and coordinates historic preservation activities throughout Missouri.
Maintains the 10 Most Endangered Property list which in 2001 included
Meramec Highlands Frisco Depot. Provides yearly awards for noteworthy
preservation of historic structures.

- Ask a reference question on line. With a library card, patrons have
access to Heritage Quest Online, local and family histories, US Census
records online and numerous publications. Great links for Genealogy.
The library maintains an archive of early city and county newspapers, the
source of a great amount of information for "Glimpses of Meramec Highlands."

- St. Louis Public Library
- Catalog contains, "Glimpses of Meramec Highlands." Site has access
to numerous special collections that address numerous city and county
history and resources, access to numerous search engines, extensive genealogy
resources, has on-line copies of the quarterly Gateway Family Historian.
- National
Register of Historic Places - National Registry of Historic Places
is maintained by the National Parks Service. The site provides excellent
on line publications on aspects of preservation and for nomination of
a property for the registry. A link is provided for technical assistance.
- Western Historical
Manuscript Collection - Owned jointly by the State Historical Society
and the University of Missouri. Numerous collections are of interest,
such as the Frisco Railroad papers, Francis Scheidegger's Kirkwood photograph
collection, and photo archives from various other St. Louis photographers.

A historian's delight! - Missouri
Historic Preservation Office - Works with U. S. Department of Interior
to carry out the Federal Historic Preservation Act. Maintains a revolving
loan fund for rehabbing efforts, awards preservation grants. Provides
numerous preservation links.

Louis County Parks Dept. - Here you will find the Historic Inventory
of County Buildings. The Hazelwood-Kirkwood section contains Meramec
Highlands structures. Provides the e-mail of the county historian who
is most helpful with information about research on historical properties.
Publications about historical buildings in St. Louis County are available
for purchase.
